LIKE YESTERDAY
MOVEMENT, MEMORY, AND WELLBEING
SHOWCASE
On 4 December 2024, Edge Hill University’s Arts Centre hosted the premiere of ‘Like Yesterday’, a heartfelt short film that brought together researchers, students, and members of the local community. This project was a collaboration between James Hewison, Senior Lecturer in Dance, and Dorothy Tse, Reader in Psychology, working alongside the University of the Third Age (u3a). The film was the result of a special project that explored the power of memories through movement, creating something deeply personal and meaningful for everyone involved.
The film invited older participants from North West England to share meaningful childhood memories, which were then transformed into movement and captured on screen. The premiere was an opportunity to reflect on the project’s impact, with attendees describing it as uplifting, emotional, and thought-provoking. It was heartening to see how impactful the project was for the participants and to hear how it influence the way they reflected on their lives.
Reflecting on the project, Dr. Dorothy Tse shared:
“As a researcher, I am so pleased to see that we are forming a strong bond with the community. It is important to co-create research projects with the community and ensure they find them beneficial.”
